The funny thing about doubt - it changes who you are. It causes you to compromise. It makes you feel small and insignificant. It creates within you a lens of fear through which you see the world. The "what if's" take over, masquerading as protection, keeping you safe from mistakes and heartache. Doubt. It is the enemy of faith. It kills hope and chokes love. There is no good thing in it. It prevents growth and development, stifles creativity and experimentation, and diminishes taking risks with the thought "perhaps some other time." It whispers it's too late, why bother.
The funny thing about believing - it gives life. It anchors the soul. It expands your perspective to view the impossible as possible. It whispers never give up, you can do it. It fuels hope. It makes you brave.
Did you know that believing is a choice? Your choice. And therein lies its beauty. It's all up to you. No one gives it to you and no one can take it away. Situations, circumstances, people, finances, sickness, and your past can all attempt to thwart the power that is in believing, but don't let it. Believe anyway. Believe in yourself. Believe things will change. Believe you are loved, lovable and lovely. Believe that believing is worth it. That you are worth it. That life is worth it. Allow yourself to believe in a way you never have before. And if you stumble back in to doubt...believe again.
Walk over the threshold of doubt into the embrace of believing - that you can make it.
I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Psalm 27:13
